Mobile Craze in Teens

Teens of the new millennium carry a different sign across them. ‘Thou are smarter and knowledgeable than peers of yesteryears’. Undoubtedly this is true, not only for kids in India, but all over the world. Teens these days are a class above adults and have a different panache about themselves. They are smarter, more focused and more aware.

Notwithstanding that they have taken over gizmos too. Ask them to fix a VCD or a TV and it’s a play of their hand. So how far can the mobile get? As adults if we use the mobile continuously they are going to pick it from us and go a step further.

You could say it’s more than just a craze of mobile among teens. They use it not only for making and receiving calls, but also for games, sharing data and a whole lot of fun. It is also used to get connected to the computer and the internet. Surf the e-zone and download data.

Now the mobile in its plain form does not appeal to them. So they jazz it up with accessories like phone faceplates, straps, antenna rings, body gloves, photo stickers, fake gems and glowing lights. Throwing in some accessories makes them feel a class apart from those who do not.

Coming to the fact that mobile phones are like second skin to the teenager. They want it to show off their personality and style. So by one look at the mobile phone, you can get a fair idea of the owner’s likes and dislikes. This is true for almost most of the teenagers barring a few who are on a cash crunch; else they too would join the ‘cool looking mobile bandwagon’.

Mobile manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and others have understood the psyche of the teenager and are cashing in on this aspect. They create mobiles that are user friendly yet chic and stylish. Razor sleek, fuchsia pinks, greens and greys to cater to the colours of the young guys and gals. And their strategy is surely working.
