Roger Federer ‘let Novak Djokovic win’ in Cincinnati Masters final

Djokovic finally got his hands on the Cincinnati Masters title for the first time in his career to complete the Golden Masters.

The world No 10 had won eight of the nine ATP 1000 tournaments heading into his first clash with Federer in two-and-a-half years.

But he did not let nerves affect his game as he romped to a 6-4, 6-4 victory to make history as the only man to ever win all four Grand Slams and all nine Masters events.

Federer was far from his best and made a number of unforced errors as Djokovic etched his name into the history books.

The Serbian was grateful to beat Federer in the Cincinnati Masters final after three previous defeats.

And he rather cheekily hinted that he was gifted the win by the world No 2.

“I’ve played five finals before and most of those I’ve lost to this great man,” Djokovic said.

“Thank you Roger for letting me win once here!”

Meanwhile, Djokovic was also impressed with his own performance after managing to break Federer three times throughout the match.

“It was by far my best performance of the week and it came at the best possible time,” Djokovic added.

“Federer is the most dominant player in the history off this tournament, he has won it seven times and beaten me in three finals.

“It was difficult coming into this match knowing I have lost to him every single time I’ve played him on this court.

“But at the same time I felt good about my chances because I felt I started to play better and better as the tournament progressed.

“I was kind of raising my level of tennis and it was just the perfect match today.”
