Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho confused by Paul Pogba amid Barcelona transfer interest

Manchester United boss Mourinho has clashed repeatedly with Pogba over the last few months, leading to talk of a sensational move away.

The France international, whose stock has never been higher after he helped his country win the World Cup in Russia last month, is wanted by La Liga giants Barcelona.

The Manchester United star recently put the Catalan side on red alert by saying: “If you’re not happy, you cannot give your best.

“There are things I cannot say otherwise I will get fined.”

Yet The Telegraph say Mourinho has been left bemused by the comments.

He has been taken aback that Pogba chose to hint at unrest after the club’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Leicester on Friday.

While all has not been perfect between the two men, Mourinho feels his star performer has reacted badly, and expected him instead to sort things out face to face.

Mourinho reportedly concedes that he can be combative at times.

But he reportedly thought Pogba would respond to him in private, rather than going public with his discontent.

The Telegraph say Mourinho also believed that, if there were any issues between the two men, they would have been resolved by now.

Instead, all is well behind the scenes at the club’s Carrington training complex.

Barcelona face a fight to lure Pogba away from Old Trafford.

The Catalan giants lack the financial muscle to broker a deal after shelling out £125million on new recruits.

Arthur Melo, Clement Lenglet, Malcom and Arturo Vidal have all arrived.

Meanwhile, Premier League legend Alan Shearer says he ‘would not be surprised’ if Pogba jumped ship.

“I’ve read this week about Pogba wanting to leave before the European transfer deadline at the end of the month and in truth that wouldn’t surprise me,” he said.

“We saw the best of Pogba in the World Cup. Didier Deschamps managed to get top performances out of him in the games he played in the summer and he played very, very well.

“He has to replicate that for United but it’s also Mourinho’s job to get the best out of him.

“Pogba did his bit on Friday in the 2-1 opening win over Leicester. He played well, scored the penalty – showing real confidence – but now he has to do that every single week.”

Pogba has endured a mixed two years back at United.

But he has helped them win silverware in the form of the EFL Cup and Europa League.
