Stan and Ollie back on screen

Alan Partridge star Coogan plays Stan while Reilly plays Ollie.

The film, Stan & Ollie, focuses on the duo’s 1953 farewell tour of the UK and Ireland’s variety halls.

It will have its world premiere at the 62nd BFI London Film Festival in October.

It will then be shown in screens across the country in January.

Laurel and Hardy appeared in more than 100 films, ranging from silent movies to full-length features, including Way Out West, Block-Heads and Sons of the Desert.

Laurel was born in Ulverston, Lancashire, in 1890 and died in 1965, aged 74. US-born Hardy died in 1957, aged 65.

Director Jon S Baird said: “Stan & Ollie, at its heart, is a love story between old friends who just happen to be two of the most iconic comedic characters in Hollywood’s history.”
