Fortnite Save the World news: Free Code latest as Epic Games release new roadmap

The original Fortnite mode continues to see new content released for it, albeit at a slower pace than in Battle Royale.

Epic Games has confirmed that they plan to continue supporting Fortnite Save the World, something that has relieved the dedicated fanbase.

Having ended commitments on other gaming projects to focus on the hugely popular Fortnite BR, some believed STW could be next.

Epic Games, meanwhile has revealed plans to make Save the World free-to-play, a big change that could create a huge boost for it.

However, while support continues for Fortnite STW, fans are experiencing issues this week.

Several performance issues have cropped up since the game’s latest update was deployed.

Reddit is full of comments confirming ongoing problems playing the game, something that Epic Games say they are working on.

“Since the release of 5.20 there has been an increase in connection issues,” Epic Games explains in a new statement.

Following investigation, we’ve discovered two major server crashes that we believe are the source of the issues: One tied to the overall ability system, Server attempting to contact the backend services. We’re working on fixing these issues as quickly as possible.

“Another topic that we’ve seen many discussions about is the camera issue when large rocket launchers are used.

“We know this is a pain point and plan to address it, we’ll give more info here as soon as we have it.”

Since this message was posted, the development team has revealed that many server crash issues have been fixed.

However, not all the problems flagged by players have been fixed yet and is something that will be the focus of the next few game patches.

Here’s the latest roadmap shared by the STW team for the next three updates coming to the game:

5.2 Content Update (Week of 8/13)

  • New Machinist Constructor in the Event Store.
  • Week 2 of the Weekly Horde Challenges.

Patch 5.3 (Week of 8/20)

  • New Blunderbuss Flintlock Assault Rifle.
  • Week 3 of the Weekly Horde Challenges.

5.3 Content Update (Week of 8/27)

  • New Mythic Ninja with new ability in the Event Store!
  • Week 4 of the Weekly Horde Challenges.
  • New Raider Soldier Hero as a reward.

Epic Games announced that STW will be following in the footsteps of its Battle Royale counterpart in one significant way – adopting the free-to-play model.

Free codes are scheduled to drop sometime in 2018, although no set month has been confirmed.

This will mean massive changes for Save the World, which has built a dedicated community since its launch.

Going free-to-play will include some significant boosts for fans hoping to carry on playing it as their main Fortnite experience.

More players will mean an easier time of starting games, but it will also come with a few drawbacks.

Save the World allow players to earn V-Bucks, and use them in Battle Royale.

And one thing STW fans are hoping to avoid is more players who are just there to farm for Battle Royale skins.

There have also been rumours that something could be announced during Season 5 of the game.

Midway through Fortnite season 4 one leaker made some bold claims about Fortnite season 5.

They claimed that Save The World would be free by the time that Fortnite season 5 ends.

However, they also made claims about other events happening around season 5 that hasn’t occurred.

So at the moment this rumour remains just speculation and should be taken with a big pinch of salt.
