Avengers Infinity War: More dead character returns CONFIRMED for Spider-Man Far From Home

Specifics around Spider-Man: Far From Home are still thin on the ground, including how it ties in to next year’s Avengers 4 – given that Spider-Man himself ended the movie as one of Thanos’ fatalities.

While the ins and outs of the Marvel favourite’s return in Spider-Man: Far From Home remain to be seen, two more characters who fell victim to the Snap are said to be on board.

Those two are Nick Fury, played by Samuel L Jackson; and Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders – as reported by Vulture.

Both of them were seen turning to ash in the Infinity War end-credits scene, in which Fury contacted Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.

Jackson had already been confirmed to appear in Captain Marvel’s solo movie, due for release next spring; but given how that film is set in the 1990s and will see him digitally de-aged, it doesn’t necessarily link into his and Hill’s ‘deaths’ – unlike, perhaps, the new Spider-Man sequel.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently in production in the UK and Jackson’s hasn’t been particularly secretive; posting a jokey Fury business card to Instagram from Watford, near London, earlier this year.

He will be joined in the cast by a returning Tom Holland as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man himself, and Zendaya.

Jake Gyllenhaal is all but confirmed to be aboard as the villain Quentin Beck, better known as Mysterio.

The film serves as a sequel to last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, which saw Holland as the third incarnation of the popular hero since the turn of the decade.

It was a huge success, logging around $880 million worldwide and winning a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

So it was a huge surprise when Peter was one of Thanos’s victims in Infinity War – and fans have been suspicious ever since that many of the deaths will somehow be reversed in next year’s Avengers 4.

Marketing Far From Home could be a challenge for Marvel, given that it comes out so soon after Avengers 4 and presumably can’t be teased without giving away Avengers 4 spoilers.

Far From Home will mark Jackson’s eleventh time as Nick Fury, having previously been in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel. He also played the role on TV in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Away from the MCU, Hill actress Smulders is in the Netflix series Friends From College, and was also recently seen in the movie Alright Now.

Jackson, meanwhile, has a vast range of projects on the go – and was last heard lending his voice to Frozone once again in Incredibles 2.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is out on July 5, 2019.
