Man Utd transfer news: Toby Alderweireld will sign for Manchester United – Sky Sports man

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is demanding £60million for the centre-back, who is desperately wanted by United.

Levy, a notoriously tough negotiator, has put the sky-high price tag on the Belgium World Cup star even though he turns 30 in March and has one year left on his White Hart Lane contract.

Levy is understood to have accepted he may have to drop Alderweireld’s price when the English transfer window closes in 12 days, allowing overseas club to pay less.

But he is determined to claw as much money as he possibly can from a Premier League rival.

And Pete Graves, the host of Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast, thinks he is set to sign on at Old Trafford.

“I think Alderweireld to Manchester United will happen – I’ve just got a feeling,” Graves said.

“It’s been lingering around for too long now – even going well back into last season. When he came back from injury he didn’t get back in the side.

“Spurs will know that this is a chance to make money on him.

“I don’t know what the fee would be but I suggest in the region of £50m and everyone would get good business.”

Spurs could have already lined up Alderweireld’s replacement with a Djene, valued at £31m by his Spanish club Getafe, a target.

Togo star Djene had an impressive season with Getafe, who boasted the third best defensive record in La Liga after Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Spurs have not made any new signings this summer, but have secured skipper Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Erik Lamela, Davinson Sanchez and Michel Vorm on new contracts.

On the prospect of Alderweireld joining United, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge added: “It significantly strengthens Manchester United. He’s just such a good defender when fit.

“He looked back to his best during the World Cup. He was brilliant against England in that third-place play-off.”
