Man City news: Pep Guardiola reveals what motivates him, offers behind-the-scenes insight

“I am ready, I am ready,” the 47-year-old said.

“From my point of view, the players don’t have to be worried. I am ready to fight again.”

As prepares for Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea at Wembley, he has revealed that the fear of losing a football match fuels his desire to win.

“I really don’t like the feeling to lose games,” he said.

“It is not good for any manager around the world, so all the managers try to avoid that feeling.

“When you lose a game, you feel guilty, you feel bad. Your private life is not good, your relationship with the players is not good, so that is why you want to avoid that.

“Just with that simple fear to lose a game makes you hungry.”

Guardiola’s priority is winning trophies and not making friends with his players, as he has now won 23 trophies in just a decade of coaching with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City.

He understands the man management of players is important behind-the-scenes, rather than one approach for all.

“Some players need to be hugged and for you to be close to them for their best performance,” Guardiola said.

“Sometimes when you don’t speak to them is when they play better.

“So every person is completely different. Others play better when they are angry with their manager or because you shout at them.

“The important thing is that they play better, not their relations with the manager. The manager at the end stops.

“When they are together, he can be an exceptional manager, but after that they write books and make statements.

“They don’t have the courage to tell face to face. It is normally the ones who don’t play.

“Normally they are so sweet, when they are here say how good the manager is and how much he is a genius.”

City were paid £10million by Amazon last season for unrestricted access to the inner workings of the club, with a documentary to be released later this month.

Guardiola is not sure what will be shown but admits he is not worried after the team produced a record breaking season.

“Last season was one season when the cameras were inside all year,” Guardiola said.

“I don’t know what they were filming and what they want to show.

“I don’t know what is in it. But last season was so good in general – so I was kind to my players.”
