Apple iPhone: What happens when you say 108 to Siri? Why you should NEVER say this

Most of the phrases Siri will be harmless. But despite all the helpful things that Siri do, one new social prank promises to cause havoc across the world.

iPhone users are being tricked with a new trend online that is causing major disruption thanks to Siri’s call assist feature.

Siri is capable of a multitude of tasks, including setting up calendar reminders, helping you to call and text people and notify you of the weather or the latest news.

But a special new voice command can call up more trouble than iPhone users want, simply by saying 108.

What happens when you say 108 to Siri?

A viral prank is sweeping the internet and causing dozens of iPhone users to get into a spot of trouble with the police.

Siri is a voice activated assistant tool that can interact with you, reply to your commands and carry out useful tasks.

But some Twitter users have tried to encourage iPhone users to say the number ‘108’ to Siri – with devastating consequences.

Twitter users suggested iPhone users would “thank them later” for the tip, but the simple command is actually a very serous number.

108 is actually the Indian equivalent of 999 emergency service calls.

Saying this number to Siri will prompt the assistant to call the local emergency services – whether the user is in the UK, USA, India or elsewhere.

For example, while you may be attempting to connect to the Indian emergency number with 108, you will actually be connected to the service of your area – so in the case of the UK, 999.

Other emergency numbers that work include 112, 110, 000 and the US code of 911.

Police services are already under strain, and adding this prank to their problems can have serious ramifications.

A Facebook post for the police department in Lewistown in the US last year said: “If 9-1-1 operators are trying to answer these calls, that means that a real emergency call might not be answered as quickly as it needs to be answered.”

For those looking for some fun ways to interact with Siri, it is probably best to stick to asking ‘who let the dogs out’, what is the meaning of life or even if Siri will marry you.

Here are just ten hilarious Siri Easter Eggs you can use without calling the police. Trying saying any of the below to your Siri assistant and see what response you get back
