Man Utd transfer news: Jose Mourinho is ‘asking to be sacked’ but ‘needs new players’

Mourinho was extremely downbeat in a press conference during Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA over the weekend.

The Portuguese revealed he would like two more signings before the window shuts on August 9 but admitted only one is likely.

United have so far brought in three new players, with Brazil midfielder Fred the stand-out buy at £52million.

But Michallik agrees with Mourinho United need more players and cannot understand why he has not been backed in the transfer market.

“I think it’s going to be tough (for Jose Mourinho to last the season at United),” Michallik said on ESPN FC.

“I almost think he’s asking to be sacked. All this complaining, he’s not getting the players be wants.

“He’s right about that, I don’t know why United can’t spend.

“They have all the money in the world, why not spend it, right? This is Manchester United.

“It’s like a big company with a CEO – if it doesn’t work, clean house and buy new players. He needs more players, I’m with him on that.

“How can Manchester United not by one significant player? Well, Fred.

“With football teams when it doesn’t work, you get rid of the manager.

“Since they didn’t get rid of the manager, now you have to support him and now you have to buy new players. Manchester United can afford it.”
