Barcelona transfer news: Catalan club confirm Lucas Digne nearing Everton deal

Goal claim that the two clubs have agreed a £22million switch for the out-of-favour Frenchman.

Digne is new Toffees boss Marco Silva’s top target on the left side of defence with veteran Leighton Baines turning 34 later this year and having struggled with injuries in the last few seasons.

And Everton are now on the verge of completing a move for Digne, with the 25-year-old deciding to leave the Nou Camp after struggling to displace Jordi Alba.

The defender made just eight La Liga starts for the Spanish champions last season and has struggled for regular minutes since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2016 – making only 46 appearances in total.

But he has been given permission to leave Barca’s United States tour and is due to fly to England to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of his switch in the coming days.

That was confirmed by Barcelona’s official Twitter account last night.

The Catalan club said: “@LucasDigne travels today to Barcelona with the Club’s permission to finalise his departure from the Club.”

That was following an Instagram post from the player himself in which he said: “I want to say thank you very much to all [at Barcelona]. First to the club that has given me everything since I arrived.

“Thanks to all the physios, the staff with whom I have worked, the physical trainers, the security people, all that make the club a family.”

Digne will become the Merseyside outfit’s second signing of the summer following their big-money capture of Richarlison from Silva’s former club Watford last week.

Everton are also looking to strike a deal for Digne’s Barca team-mate Yerry Mina as they target further defensive strengthening.

The Colombian centre-back has also attracted apparent interest from Wolves, Manchester United and Leicester City and would reportedly cost around £20m.

Digne’s arrival comes as a welcome boost in the middle of a difficult pre-season. Everton have lost all of their last four matches, going down 4-1 to Rennes in their most recent outing on Saturday.

Everton may also have to fend off interest from Chelsea in No 1 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who they hope to tie down to a new contract after his heroics for England at the World Cup as they reached the semi finals.
