Sky TV is getting a radical upgrade and it could change the way you watch FOREVER

customers have a swathe of changes coming to their service in the coming months with the and the introduction of High Dynamic Range.

Improved personalisation with the addition of individual profiles and a new kids mode that will stop the younger members of the family accessing inappropriate content are also inbound.

However, perhaps the most radical news to come from Sky is the development of a new technology which could see the end of the remote control.

The upgrade was revealed in Sky’s financial statement last week with the firm divulging a hands-free TV experience could arrive before the end of the year.

Sky’s new Q service already features voice-powered search which, with over 10 million requests a month, is clearly a popular addition.

But it seems this is now being taken to a new level with a plan to make the living room a totally hands-free area.

Sky has even teased the feature with an advert showing a woman searching for her remote – the tagline reads “You can’t lose your voice under the sofa.”

There’s no official launch date for this new service but Sky says it plans to trial it later this year.

Voice search continues to grow in popularity with Amazon’s Echo speaker now one of the biggest tech products on the market.

This smart speaker allows you to ask questions, search for music and even switch on the lights and heating with simple commands.

It’s unclear what features will be included in Sky’s own voice upgrade but the firm has hinted that customers will be able to “beg for Benedict, summon Discovery of Witches, or simply ask it to record your favourite shows.”

Along with its TV service getting improved Sky has is adding to its broadband capabilities with the firm saying it aims to offer more customers faster download by significantly increasing fibre broadband penetration.

A launch a next-generation router in the UK with enhanced Wifi capabilities is expected soon.

The report also gave a little more insight into Sky’s ambitions to launch its service without needing a dish.

The satellite broadcaster announced in 2017 that it would be launching a new service which brings Sky to homes via their broadband.

Although there’s no word on a UK launch, Sky has confirmed that the new service will be arriving in Austria and Italy.

Speaking about the update, Jeremy Darroch, Group Chief Executive, said: ”It’s been an exceptional year.

“Our strong performance reflects the execution of our strategy over an extended period of time, driving sustained growth in revenue, profits and shareholder returns.

“We do this by providing our customers more of the best content, world class innovation in products and services, combined with industry leading front-line service.
