PS Plus August 2018 UPDATE: Big PlayStation news ahead of free PS4 games reveal

The PS Plus August 2018 lineup is expected to be revealed by Sony very soon.

While the tech giant hasn’t provided any big hints at what could be included, their next round of free PS4 games will need to be interesting.

Microsoft recently threw down the gauntlet by announcing Ubisoft’s For Honor and Forza Horizon 2 as being available next month for Xbox One.

And while earlier months have been a little lacklustre from Microsoft, August’s lineup is sure to peak fan interest.

PS4 gamers were also expecting the PS Plus August 2018 reveal last week, but found themselves having to wait a little longer.

PlayStation Plus freebies are typically announced on the last Wednesday of the month and released the following Tuesday.

However, Sony delayed the usual reveal date due to the way the days fall in July.

It’s now more likely that the PS Plus games for August 2018 will be announced on Wednesday, August 1, and released on August 7.

Until the PS Plus reveal, Sony has been running a new Game Sale that includes a bonus discount for those with a subscription.

The PlayStation Store’s Summer Sale is in full swing and includes some top games among its number.

Hundreds of games across PS4, PS VR, PS3 and PS Vita are available at a discounted price, including Assassin’s Creed Origins, Gran Turismo Sport and No Man’s Sky.

“There are adventures and experiences to suit all tastes. Rediscover secrets of a long-lost past as you fight vicious mechanised monstrosities in Horizon: Zero Dawn. Roar across America with the exhilarating races of The Crew 2,” a message from PlayStation reads.

“Battle to survive across the haunting kingdom of Lordran in Dark Souls: Remastered. Lose yourself in sprawling ancient Egypt with Assassin’s Creed Origins.”

It has also been confirmed by Sony and Rockstar Games that GTA 5 Online will not require a PS Plus subscription for a limited time.

This means all PS4 owners with a copy of GTA 5 will have access to GTA Online on PS4 and PS3 until August 6.

It should be noted that the content you have downloaded as part of your PlayStation Plus subscription at no charge is only accessible as long as you are an active subscriber.

The exceptions are free themes and avatars, which you will continue to have access to, even if you are no longer a subscriber.

Anything you have purchased (even if you bought it at a discount) will remain available to you even if your subscription ends.

Also, different countries have different rights, release schedules and, have different things available on their PlayStation Store for this reason.

So this is why you may hear about different games being available in Asia, Europe and North America when it comes to some PS Plus announcements.

Even following the official announcement this week, fans will still have plenty of time to grab the current batch of PS Plus games before they disappear.

This includes Heavy Rain and Absolver for PS4, Rayman 3 HD and Extreme Exorcism for PS3, and Space Overlords and Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma for Vita.
