Texas authorities say five people were killed in separate but connected shootings on Friday evening, including at a nursing home in a Corpus Christi suburb.

Two men and a woman died following a shooting at the Retama Manor Nursing Center, Robstown police said in a statement. Two additional victims were later found dead in a home linked to that shooting.

Officers responded to reports of an active shooting at the Retama Manor Nursing Center outside Corpus Christi at about 7 p.m. (8 p.m. ET), Robstown police said in a statement.

When they arrived the gunfire had ended and the victims were dead at the scene, police said.

Robstown City Secretary Herman Rodriguez told NBC affiliate KRISTV that the suspected shooter was believed to be among the dead.

“The second location with two additional bodies” is “believed to be related with the first” location, said Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin, in a separate statement. Officials did not elaborate or give further details.

The case is being handled by the Robstown police department, but Kaelin said Texas Rangers — a law enforcement agency with a statewide jurisdiction — would aid the potential murder investigation.
