Chelsea transfer news: Kasper Schmeichel expected to join despite Jordan Pickford claims

Chelsea have been linked with Schmeichel and Pickford as uncertainty over Courtois’ future continues to rumble on.

The Belgium international has his heart set on a move back to La Liga with Real Madrid, who are on the lookout for a marquee goalkeeper.

Chelsea have so far refused to let Courtois go, however, with the player keen to return to Spain to be closer to his family.

And Ladbrokes claim the west London giants are likely to end up with Schmeichel, despite Leicester insisting the Denmark international is not for sale.

Schmeichel has been priced at 6/4 to join Chelsea.

Pickford, who Sky Sports have claimed is their top candidate to replace Courtois, is then available at 5/2 – the same price as Stoke’s Jack Butland.

Former Chelsea star Petr Cech is then put at 4/1 to return, with Gianluigi Donnarumma bringing up the rear at 8/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Plenty of names have been thrown into the mix, but the odds suggest it’s still Kasper Schmeichel who’ll get the nod as Courtois’ replacement at Stamford Bridge.”

Leicester, however, have made it clear that Schmeichel is in their plans for the forthcoming campaign.

“I am not troubled about this,” Puel told Sky Sports.

“Of course Kasper is a very important player for us. He had a very strong World Cup.

“We need Kasper, with his character, his performance and his consistency.”

Real Madrid may land Courtois on the cheap, with reports suggesting his price tag could be as low as £35million.

The Belgium international will take some replacing, having helped the club win two Premier League titles in the last three years.
