Your Sky TV is getting more new features and here’s what is coming soon

has already had a big year of announcements with the satellite TV firm introducing more 4K content and the ability to .

But it seems customers are set for even more extras in the coming months.

Sky has just released their latest financial results which includes a swathe of news on what’s to come in the future.

It appears there’s lots arriving on the platform but perhaps the biggest upgrade could appear in the form of a new ‘hands-free’ TV experience which Sky says will use the next generation of voice control.

This could mean the end of searching for your remote as the whole service will be powered by speech.

Voice-powered Sky Q is only development and there’s word on an actual launch, but will be interesting to see how this changes the way we interact with our televisions in the future.

Other extras announced today include improved personalisation with the addition of individual profiles and a new kids mode will stop the younger members of the family accessing inappropriate content.

There’s also more good news if you own a 4K TV and Sky is boasting that it’s going to double the amount content it broadcasts in Ultra HD.

And High Dynamic Range (HDR) will be coming in 2019 which will boost image quality even further.

The report also gave a little more insight into Sky’s ambitions to launch its service without needing a dish.

The satellite broadcaster announced in 2017 that it would be launching a new service which brings Sky to homes via their broadband.

Jeremy Darroch, the Sky chief executive, said it would allow Sky to target up to six million households across Europe and two million in the UK who can’t or don’t want a satellite dish.

Although there’s no word on a UK launch but Sky has confirmed that the new service will be arriving in Austria and Italy.

Along with its TV service getting improved Sky has is adding to its broadband capabilities with the firm saying it aims to offer more customers faster download by significantly increasing fibre broadband penetration.

A launch a next-generation router in the UK with enhanced Wifi capabilities is expected soon.

Speaking about the update, Jeremy Darroch, Group Chief Executive, said: ”It’s been an exceptional year.

“We do this by providing our customers more of the best content, world class innovation in products and services, combined with industry leading front-line service.

“Alongside this, we’ve put in place further building blocks for future growth.

“And our agreements with Netflix, Mediaset, BT and Spotify will further enhance and extend our customer offer.”
