On July 28, 2015, during an appearance on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Cruise confirmed he would be reprising his role as Ethan Hunt.
Christopher McQuarrie returned to write Mission Impossible six and eventually confirmed he would also direct the sequel.
McQuarrie is the first person to direct two movies in the franchise.
Jeremy Renner did not return to the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Avengers: Infinity War which prevented him from reprising his role.
