Stone Cold Steve Austin reveals what WWE are missing the most ahead of SummerSlam

Legendary managers like Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, Mr Fuji and Sensational Sherri helped put the WWE on the map and built some of the greatest ever superstars like Andre The Giant, Yokozuna and Shawn Michaels.

Today Paul Heyman stands out in that regard but even he makes sporadic appearances as Universal Champion Brock Lesnar’s advocate.

According to Give Me Sport, Austin believes their flamboyance, personalities and ability to enhance talent are needed back in the business.

Stone Cold said during The Steve Austin Show: “You just don’t see [managers] anymore. To me, they were the salt and pepper on a great steak.

“Such colourful, flamboyant personalities, either that mouthpiece, or that dressing, or whatever it needs to be to enhance that talent further, or be the crutch, or be an addition to, and just make that person a superstar.

“The way I grew up watching wrestling when I was seven or eight years old, and going through the territories, and having my share of managers.

“Whether I liked them or not, or wanted them to be with me, I learned a lot from them. To me, they’re part of the landscape that is pro wrestling.”

Austin was managed by the likes of Heyman and The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase on his road to superstardom.

They played a big part in making the Hall of Famer one of the greatest ever WWE legends as he is a six-time world champion and has beaten some of the best like The Rock, The Undertaker and Triple H.

Heyman and Lesnar will return at SummerSlam on August 19 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York where The Beast will defend the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns.
