Rangers transfer news: Steven Gerrard can expect TWO more signings – King

The Scottish outfit have already brought in 10 new players during the transfer window since the 38-year-old took charge.

Rangers finished third in the league last term under Pedro Caixinha and then Graeme Murty.

Liverpool legend Gerrard has now been tasked with closing the gap on fierce rivals Celtic when the new campaign gets underway.

And Ibrox chairman Dave King has hinted that the squad will likely be strengthened further in the coming weeks.

“I think we could probably see another couple coming in,” he said.

“And there could be a couple going out, depending what happens with the English window coming up.

“We’ve certainly added a lot of players and there’s been a couple away as well.

“I think the squad is more settled, more balanced and I think there’s greater quality and depth than we’ve had in the last couple of years.”

King adds that Rangers should improve on their league form from last season and is hoping Gerrard can mount a challenge against old boss Brendan Rodgers.

He said: “Rangers, very often, in prior years were maybe the best team in Scotland but didn’t always win the league but you’ve got to be able to compete for the league.

“Obviously, winning would be ideal and is what the club is really about.

“But, season-by-season, I would like to think that we would be more competitive in the league and certainly run it a lot closer toward the end than we did last season.”
