Thierry Henry to Aston Villa: Steve Bruce set for crunch talks with owners

The embattled boss admitted on Tuesday he is still in the dark over his own future after reports suggested his time as Villans boss was soon to be over.

Henry is rumoured to have already agreed a deal to take over at Villa.

But according to the Guardian, Bruce will sit down with Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris and American financier Wes Edens on Wednesday to see whether they plan to retain his services after their recent purchase of the club.

The bookmakers have already stopped taking bets on Henry taking charge of Villa’s first game of the season next month.

And speaking to the media today, Bruce admitted the new owners are well within their right to want a new man at the helm.

“I don’t think it’s important about me. I made myself clear two weeks ago when I said, ‘Look, whatever the state the club is in I think it needs me’,” he told reporters.

“The new owners might want to have their own man in.

“All the indications are that that’s not the case but until I get in front of them we won’t know.

“I don’t think it’s important now to talk about myself. The good thing is that we can move forward.

“I hope they give me the opportunity, I really do, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not going to be that way because we’ve seen it many times.

“The new broom always sweeps clean. I hope I’m given the opportunity.”

Villa were facing administration just last month as Tony Xia was pressured to sell the club.

Sawiris and Edens plan to invest a significant amount of money into the Midlands outfit, as they try escape the Championship at the third time of asking.
