Pixel 3 could be joined by another new device at Google launch event

Google announced its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones at a special event on October 4 last year and it is expected the firm will have an event at a similar time to announced their successors.

Although the Pixel phones were the focus of the event, Google also debuted a host of new products such as a new Google Home Mini, Pixel Buds and the Google Pixelbook.

VentureBeat reporter and notable leaker Evan Blass insisted a “second-generation Pixelbook” will be announced at a hardware event hosted by Google later this year.

Citing a “reliable source” he stated the laptop hybrid will appear with severely reduced bezels and will ship before the end of the year.

He said: “Add to this fall hardware lineup a second-generation Pixelbook, with smaller bezels, scheduled to ship before the end of the year.”

Shaving the bezels from a second generation Pixelbook could line up with Google’s philosophy with its Pixel 3 smartphone.

Rumours point to the tech giant opting to bring a notch to the Pixel 3 XL to drastically increase screen size.

Evan Blass also insisted Google is planning to introduce a second generation of Pixel Buds in addition to a brand new Pixel watch later this year.

He tweeted: “Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me — with high confidence — that Google’s fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch. Have a great summer!”

Google’s Wear OS operating system powers the majority of Android smartwatches other than manufacturers that have opted to create their own software for wearables.

But such a move would mark Google’s first foray into creating its own wearable.

The Google Pixelbook was announced last year and was positioned as the top-tier Chromebook from the Silicon Valley giant.

The product diverged from the mantra of other Chromebooks by being priced at a premium.

Other Chromebooks offered an alternative for users that did not want to splash out on a Macbook for ultra-specced Windows laptop.

When Express.co.uk reviewed the Pixelbook last year we said it was undoubtedly a “luxurious device” but we felt the starting price of £999 was far too much.

We said: “We really like the Chromebook but we just can’t help feeling that a starting price of £999 is simply too much to pay for a machine that can’t do everything a Mac or Window PC can.

“Google’s Crome OS is getting better and more applications are coming to the platform but, it’s not quite there yet.

“If you want the best laptop on the market, you might want to look elsewhere.”
