Liverpool transfer EXCLUSIVE: Jurgen Klopp urged to sign world-class striker

That is according to former Liverpool winger Harry Kewell.

Liverpool have strengthened their side this summer with deals for Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita and most recently Alisson.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to kick on from last season’s Champions League final defeat and push for trophies this term.

Liverpool are yet to win any silverware under Klopp but thrilled fans last season with their attacking football.

And Kewell reckons the forward trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah need one extra addition to make the attack tick.

Speaking before the World Cup, he told Express Sport: “Last season for Liverpool was excellent.

“That was a performance to definitely win something.

“But obviously with City having that exceptional season every other team has been overshadowed.

“But they’re definitely heading in the right direction.

“Their front three are phenomenal but I believe they need someone else as well.

“Just in case something happens to one of them.

“So they do need another world-class striker.”

Whether or not Liverpool go for any more players this summer remains to be seen.

Klopp focused on his midfield, with Shaqiri, Fabinho and Keita adding to their solidity while also offering a forward threat.

The £66.8m signing of Alisson effectively ends Loris Karius’ hopes of remaining the No 1 at Anfield.

But as Express Sport revealed today, Klopp is open to retaining Karius as his back-up goalkeeper, with Danny Ward having joined Leicester last week.

Discussing the upcoming campaign, Kewell – speaking in association with UberEats – said: “It’s a big season for Liverpool.

“That had a fantastic season and have some quality players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson.

“Mane, Salah and Firmino are excellent, while Jordan Henderson is turning into the player that we all hoped for. He’s getting better and better with age.”
