PS5 release date: When is PS5 coming out? New PS4 and Xbox news could shock fans

The most recent estimates have placed the PS5 release date as dropping in 2020, or later still.

This is based on how Sony has been talking about their upcoming project and the plans they have for the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

The tech company haven’t confirmed a direct timeline for their future hardware, so there is still a lot of guesswork being done.

But while Sony is pretty comfortable with their line of consoles, their competitors could still have a massive impact.

2020 sounds like a good year for the PS5 release date, but not if the Xbox Two is launched before then.

What if Microsoft decides to move their plans forward and try and beat Sony to the next-gen punch?

This is something being predicted by Industry analyst Michael Pachter, who believes things could change in the gaming space in a more unexpected way.

Citing 2020 as a suitable date for the next Microsoft console, Pachter added that the tech giant could remain flexible to help beat the PS5 out into the market.

“I’m sure Microsoft intends to launch first, and I am equally certain that the new Xbox will be backwards compatible with any Xbox One X software,” Pachter told GamingBolt.

“I agree that it’s hard for Xbox One X purchasers, but they should know 4 years into a cycle that there is another one coming.

“My guess is that Microsoft intends to launch in 2020, but if they think Sony is going [to launch the PS5] then, they will launch early.”

A race between the two console makers wouldn’t be that surprising as having your device to be first on the market could bring huge benefits.

It will also matter just what new features both company’s want to include in their new device.

The Nintendo Switch was able to enter the market with a bang due to its unique design and playstyle.

But if both the PS5 and Xbox Two are going to offer similar features, being the first available on the market could prove key.

And as Pachter mentions above, backwards compatibility could also play a huge role in sales.

Keeping your existing games library and using it on your next console could certainly prove a deal-breaker for any console owner.

Another report this week also looks at the likelihood of an earlier next-gen release.

As fans continue to speculate over the PS5, one primary developer may have revealed the release date window for the successor to the PS4.

Infinity Ward has posted a new job listing which looks to be for a position working on Call of Duty 2019.

COD news website Charlie Intel reported on the job listing, which suggests next year’s Call of Duty will have a campaign mode.

This will mark a return for single-player mode as Black Ops 4 (which is coming out later this year) will have a focus on online multiplayer.

But the job listing reveals that the unannounced title will be for “multiple next-gen platforms”.

This suggests the 2019 Call of Duty is planned to be released on the PS5 and the next Xbox, which has been codenamed, Scarlett.

Call of Duty games typically releases around October or November each year.
