Virgin Media customers get a new FREE sports channel and it launches TODAY

It seems Virgin Media is on a drive to push out new features and content to its customers.

The broadband and TV firm has already revealed more 4K content is launching and it will be bringing the BT Sport 4K UHD channel to its top TV bundles at no extra cost.

Now there’s another big announcement from Virgin with the arrival of something called FreeSports.

This channel aims to broadcast up to 1,000 events a year and will specialise in airing a mix of domestic and international programming from the world’s most loved sports.

Virgin says that this vast selection will include highlights and live football, cricket, tennis, rugby, athletics and motorsport action as well as basketball, ice hockey and even drone racing.

There will also be some top action on offer including live International football friendlies, Premier League teams’ pre-season friendlies, Guinness PRO14 Rugby, ATP World Tour 250 tennis series, grassroots rugby league, British Basketball League, Global T20 Canada cricket as well as Red Bull Air Races.

All Virgin TV customers will be able to access FreeSports on channel 553 from today, Saturday July 21.

Speaking about the channel, Richard Sweeney, CEO at FreeSports, said: “We are delighted that our ever growing dedicated free sports channel is joining the Virgin Media platform.

“FreeSports boasts a large portfolio of global and domestic free, live sport that we believe will be a huge hit with Virgin Media customers.”

Along with the sports channel, Virgin has also revealed that it is bolstering its family and kids’ entertainment offering by adding two new exclusive channels, Love Nature HD and ZooMoo HD.

Both channels have animals and nature at its core and have a wide range of diverse shows and content.

Both Love Nature HD and ZooMoo HD are available to Virgin TV Full House customers and can be viewed in high-definition on channel 293 and 739 respectively from Saturday 21 July.

The news of the new channel comes as Virgin has also announced that it will soon allow customers to track technicians in real time.

The new service will provide customers with important appointment details, starting with a reminder the day before, and continuing with live updates on the day of the appointment right up until the technician arrives.

The service has been designed to reduce uncertainty and improve customer satisfaction.

Initiallycustomers in Liverpool, Guildford and the Cotswolds will have access to the service ahead of a wider rollout in the autumn.
