Real Madrid transfer news: Karim Benzema hits out at Napoli president De Laurentiis

The Real Madrid forward’s Bernabeu future is regularly questioned when the transfer window opens.

And Benzema has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli in recent weeks.

But De Laurentiis discussed the rumours this week, claiming he wouldn’t sign ‘old men’.

“Di Maria and Benzema? Very much false,” he told Italian radio station Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I’m very surprised because the Corriere dello Sport editor is experienced and I only wish good things for him. Is Antonio Giordano the only one I can trust to tell the truth.

“There’s an agreement between myself and [Coach Carlo] Ancelotti.

“Why would I sign these two old men, with all due respect?

“I don’t have to please the fans, they play football in the bar, I respect them but they need to stay calm and let us work.”

But Benzema has hit back at the Napoli chief’s comments, labelling De Laurentiis a ‘nutter’.

“Another nutter on the list! No 9s make him lose it,” he wrote on Instagram.

The Frenchman is likely to have been referring to Napoli’s high turnover of centre-forwards.

Fabio Quagliarella, Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain all failed to stay at the club longer than three seasons.

Madrid have already lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, meaning Benzema’s departure is unlikely at present.
