Arsenal transfer news: Gunners in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Yann Sommer

The Gunners have already brought in a new shot-stopper this summer, signing Bernd Leno for £19m last month.

But Unai Emery is certainly keen to continue adding to his squad before next month’s deadline.

And according to Marca, the Gunners are nearing yet another new arrival in between the sticks.

The Spanish publication claim Arsenal are in ‘advanced talks’ with Sommer, who replaced Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at Monchengladbach when he joined Barcelona.

The Swiss No 1 has impressed for the Bundesliga outfit, holding down a first-team spot in recent seasons.

Marca also claim the Catalan side are chasing Sommer this summer as Jasper Cillesen nears a Nou Camp exit.

The 29-year-old’s potential move to Arsenal could see Barcelona swoop for Liverpool outcast Simon Mignolet instead.

Current Arsenal shot-stoppers Petr Cech and David Ospina both look like they will depart the club as Emery revamps his new-look Arsenal side.

The former has been linked with a shock return to Chelsea this summer.

As well as Leno, Emery has brought in Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Sommer’s fellow countryman Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The duo played together at the World Cup for Switzerland this summer, crashing out at the last 16 stage.
