WWE news: Jim Ross makes HUGE Undertaker revelation ahead of wrestling return

Undertaker made a name for himself thanks to his macabre, intimidating and sinister gimmick that saw him come out in dark clothes, dim lights, intense pyro and supernatural style.

The Deadman is also remembered by his American Badass gimmick that saw him wearing blue jeans, sun glasses and bandannas as he made his way to the ring on his motorcycle.

So when Ross decided to try and call him Booger Red it was all doomed to fail in a big way.

According to Wrestling Inc, JR explained during The Jim Ross Report that the nickname originated from the Texas linebacker Tommy Nobis who had red hair and was as tough as nails.

The WWE Hall of Famer thought it would be a good fit for The Phenom because he is also from Texas, has red hair and is also one of the toughest athletes in the world.

The WWE legend explained: “Of all the names that I threw out there, some stuck and some didn’t. This one did not, obviously. If it did, it stuck in a bad way.

“But the Booger Red definition is very simple and this is a very often asked question. Booger Red was in reference to the great Texas linebacker, the late Tommy Nobis.

“Tommy Nobis wore No60. He had a 20-inch neck. He had red hair. And so all through school, because he was such a fierce hitter, at 6’3″, probably 245 [lbs.] linebacker, he was huge for that position in that era. He unhinged people. His nickname was Booger Red.

“Well, if you look in the dictionary for what a booger is, it’s not something that you go look for with your index finger in your nose. Booger means a goblin or something like that, a scary person or a scary entity specifically, so I thought, ‘Well, this might stretch out there and make something.’

“Taker is that macabre type of figure and Booger Red was kind of a tribute to his Texas heritage. And, basically, what happened is that it s–t the bed and so that’s where we are. And that’s who Booger Red was.

“It was trying to use a little football and Tommy Nobis was the baddest of the bad. There was nobody like him. He’d tear you apart, blah, blah, blah.

“Taker’s the same way in his world. And Taker, of course, had red hair. Anyway, the more you explain it the more crappy it is.”

Undertaker’s last WWE in-ring appearance took place during a live event at Madison Square Garden in New York where he teamed up with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman in a Six-Man Tag Team Match.

The stunning trio beat Kevin Owens, Baron Corbin and Elias when Taker hit KO with a devastating Tombstone Piledriver.

The seven-time world champion is set to return for another match at WWE Super Show-Down on October 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia where he will take on Triple H for the last time ever.

Rumours suggest he may also come back at SummerSlam on August 19 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York to rekindle his rivalry with John Cena.
