Fortnite patch notes July 19: Epic explain lack of 5.1 update news

Having taken servers offline today for several hours, fans were ready to find out about the next significant feature.

Epic Games usually shares Fortnite patch notes while the game is down, giving fans something to do while they wait.

However, nothing has been posted today in regards to what has changed in-game.

And that’s because the July 19 Fortnite downtime was for maintenance on the servers and backend systems.

Explaining why the game had to go offline, Epic Games posted an official explanation on the changes.

“We hear you on the fixes and improvements you’re looking forward to and have some of these fixes planned for the future,” Epic Games posted on Reddit.

“But let me clarify what this specific downtime is going to be affecting.

“We’re going to be doing backend maintenance that will apply improvements to our matchmaking services as well as deploying updates to our session trackers.

“This is not a patch but just designed to make improvements to our backend systems.”

So no Fortnite update 5.1 on July 19, but fans can probably expect something like that next week.

Epic Games have gotten into a habit of patching their Battle Royale game every week.

And that’s for every platform, including PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.

So for fans who are looking to find out exactly what happened today, as far as we all know, it was all to improve matchmaking.

And while there a no new features to explore this week, fans do have access to the new Week 2 challenges.

There was a bit of confusion today as fans had to wait longer to get access to the tasks then they usually have to.

However, all of the new challenges can now be found in-game, on all platforms.

The challenges are separated into hard and regular tiers of difficulty.

The hard difficulty Fortnite challenges net players ten Battle Stars, while the regular tasks reward fans with five Battle Stars.

Earning Battle Stars levels up your Battle Pass, which is how you unlock all of the rewards on offer.

Season 5 also features bonus challenges that will net players specific items. The Road Trip challenges are similar to Blockbuster challenges from Season 4.

The Road Trip tier rewards players with special loading screens for fully completing all weekly challenges. These loading screens feature hidden Battle Star clues.

Drift Challenges, meanwhile, reward players with new costume pieces for earning XP. Earning enough XP to complete four out of five tiers unlocks a special Harvesting Tool.
