BREAKING: Kim Jong-un unexpectedly RECALLS overseas ambassadors and chiefs to North Korea

The heads of the embassies and missions were called for what is assumed to be an ambassadorial meeting, according to sources.

It is not yet clear whether this is an annual meeting or a special one-off arrangement.

The last North Korean ambassadorial meeting was in July 2015.

It was only the 43rd ambassadorial meeting ever conducted by the secretive state.

The news comes just weeks after the North Korean leader met with Donald Trump.

The leaders agreed to work towards “complete denuclearisation” of the Korean peninsula.

Observers have suggested the meeting may be being held ahead of the 70th anniversary of the North Korean regime in September.

South Korean agencies are watchful of their Northern neighbours, but the unification ministry has said it is yet to confirm any information on the matter.

Last month’s summit was the first ever meting between leaders of the United States and North Korea.

As well as the aim of denuclearisation, the leaders agreed on peaceful relations between the two countries, recovery of soldiers’ remains, and follow up negotiations between high level officials.

After the meetings, Trump announced that the US would withdraw from provocative military exercises conducted alongside South Korea.
