OnePlus is due to roll out an update for its OnePlus 6 which will enhance the camera.
The OnePlus Oxygen OS 5.1.9 update will enhance the camera in a number of ways to make photos far better, says the company.
According to an in depth analysis of the beta software, by Trusted Reviews, there are lots of software enhancements that have added to picture quality.
The picture quality has been improved in the detailing, the report claims, thanks to processing after the shot is taken as well as enhanced sharpening and edge detection.
Dynamic range also appears to have received a boost as one of the most obvious enhancements.
The result are images with a far wider dynamic range which means better detail between and across light and dark areas. This also means more vibrant colours.
Portrait mode, which blurs the background behind a person in a shot, has also been enhanced.
While the dynamic range helps in these shots, there were issues with the beta which resulted in some erroneous blurring. Hopefully this won’t be present in the final version.
The OnePlus 6 camera should be faster thanks to the new firmware update.
Autofocus on the camera appears to have been enhanced. A test of tap-to-focus when shooting at 240fps found a speed improvement of 22 frames.
The focus also appears to hunt for a moving subject less which could result in overall better photos and videos while saving on battery life.
The front-facing portrait mode also appears to have an improvement.
Slightly less feathering around the edges of the subject result in a mode clearly defined foreground face in the photo.
Overall photos should also show improvements in the form of better contrast and definition.
The new Oxygen OS 5.1.9 also adds Google Lens integration into the camera app.
This means that you’ll be able to hold up the camera and have Google smarts detect what is being looked at for smart interactions.
This should also work as part of the update on the OnePlus 5T and the OnePlus 5.
