Fortnite patch notes: Good news and bad for 5.01 Battle Royale fans

While today’s content update may have provided new items to use on the island, it also took some away.

The Fortnite patch notes released today confirm that players now have access to a new SMG.

The new submachine Gun added today is available in Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants and boasts a 19-21 base damage rate.

It’s also been confirmed that the new SMG uses Light Ammo, has a 30 round capacity and can be found in floor loot and chests.

This is all good news for Fortnite fans wanting to try something new during their next rounds in Battle Royale mode.

It means the loadout meta could change significantly, which could make those firefights a little more unpredictable in the game to come.

But Epic Games have also taken away a few things too.

The Tactical SMG has been added to the Vault, meaning that Epic Games are again trying to change things up a little.

Users have taken note of the gameplay tweak, with one posting on Reddit: “This is pretty huge.

“All the other vaulted items were obsolete or underpowered; this is the first instance of removing one of the most popular weapons.

“I wonder how much different the new SMG is to warrant making a new weapon instead of adjusting the tactical SMG.”

Other changes made in today’s content update includes the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle getting a stats buff.

Damage has now been increased to 75/78 from 63/66, which could be good or bad news, depending on how you like to play Fortnite.

Today’s patch is pretty light when it comes to new items and features, but it makes sense when you take into account all the recent changes.

Fortnite Season 5 only just launched and included a considerable amount of changes.

It would certainly look like overkill if Epic Games decided to provide even more stuff, although today’s meta changes shouldn’t be underestimated.

Removing a favoured weapon and adding a new one is a good way of making sure things don’t devolve into a repetitive mess.

However, only the time will tell if this is seen as a good choice made by Epic Games for their massive battle royale game.
