Conor McGregor NOT in mix to fight Khabib – Tony Ferguson bombshell to rock UFC

The wheels for a mega-money bout between McGregor and his successor at the summit of the UFC’s lightweight division are seemingly in motion.

Late last month, a notion which was dismissed this past weekend by UFC president Dana White.

Although White has denied rumours of the promotion being in talks with McGregor, all signs seemed to be pointing to the Irishman locking horns with Nurmagomedov before the end of the year.

But Ferguson, who was supposed to face Nurmagomedov for the undisputed lightweight title at UFC 223 in April, disagrees and believes McGregor isn’t in contention to challenge for the 155lbs crown.

“McGregor, in my opinion, is not in the mix,” Ferguson told TSN during a media scrum last week. “It’s Khabib and me. It’s ‘El Cucuy’ vs. ‘The Eagle.’”

McGregor, 29, hasn’t set foot inside the Octagon since claiming the lightweight title 19 months ago in the main event of 205.

The mixed martial arts world is eager to see ‘The Notorious’ get back to what he does best, including Ferguson.

“I would like to see him fight again, not because of what the tabloids and everybody says are going on, but because he’s an athlete, straight up,” Ferguson said of McGregor.

“I’ve seen him, I’ve met him, I’ve talked to him. A lot of these fighters are out there, it’s just a front.

“I’m not gonna expose his cover, but look, man, do your sh-t, handle it, and get back on the f*****g mat.”

Before McGregor can make his long-awaited return to the UFC, he must first resolve his ongoing legal issues, the result of his actions at the UFC 223 media day.

Ireland’s first UFC belt holder is currently facing three charges of assault and one charge of criminal mischief for his rampage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, .

McGregor’s legal team are working on a plea deal with the Brooklyn District Attorney and he’s due back in court on July 26.
