Liverpool transfer news: Nabil Fekir deal takes twist as Lyon president makes bold claim

The France international almost joined the Reds last month, however, the deal fell through at the death.

Liverpool discovered an old knee injury during Fekir’s medical, forcing the Reds to pull the plug on their £53m deal.

It remains unclear whether Liverpool will go back in for the 24-year-old after the World Cup final today, where France face Croatia in Russia.

However, Aulas has offered the Reds hope of signing Fekir, claiming the playmaker may still join Liverpool this summer.

“It seems to me that Liverpool could come back in,” Aulas told Le10Sport.

“That’s what I’ve read in the press, but I’ve not been told anything.

“His transfer failed in June, but he hasn’t been affected by it. He is focused on the World Cup, and he still has his heart in Lyon.

“Nabil is much closer to Lyon today than he was when we talked to Liverpool.

“Maybe he will go to Liverpool, or another club, but if he stays at Lyon, it will be a great year for him and for us.”

Should Liverpool sign Fekir, he would become Jurgen Klopp’s fourth summer signing.

The playmaker would follow Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri to Anfield.
