Chrome users could be set for new look thanks to Google Photos

The tech giant added a new option to its Chrome browser last month that allowed users to customise their new tab pages with a limited number of wallpapers.

This meant when users chose to open a new tab they would no longer be greeted with the standard white screen showing the Google logo.

Such a move is part of the company’s attempt to make Chrome appear more like the user’s own.

However, a new addition found in Chromium Gerrit, a developer channel for Chrome that stores documents and code related to ongoing projects with the browser, hinted users could soon be able to customise their new tab pages with pictures from Google Photos.

Such a move would severely enhance current levels of customisation found in the browser.

Users could be able to customise their new tab pages with different pictures of their choosing.

The addition, first spotted by About Chromebooks, reads: “NTP (new tab page) Add Google Photos option for custom backgrounds

“Allow users to select one of their photos from Google Photos and set it as the NTP background image.

“Currently only supports users who are already signed in to their Google account.”

The addition explains the user would need to be signed into their Google account so Chrome can link with Google Photos.

However, there is not currently an option to the user the future.

This means the code needed to flesh out the feature has not been completed yet.

It is unclear whether the feature would be available on all platforms Chrome is available.

This means the feature may not work across Mac, Linux and Windows when it launches.

There is also no indication as to whether this feature could make its way over to all users of the Google browser.

Google Photos is the tech behemoth’s solution to photo sharing and storage.

Announced in 2015, the software provides users with unlimited storage for videos up to a 1080p resolution and pictures up to 16 megapixels.

If users want further storage, or higher quality storage, they will have to pay Google on a monthly basis.
