South Africa plane crash: 19 injured after aircraft goes down – ‘Smoke all over the place’

Tshwane Metro Police Department spokesman Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said a small plane crashed in the Kameeldrift plot.

He said: ”We suspect that the plane was on its way to the Wonderboom airport.

“There is smoke all over and paramedics are on the scene.

“They will provide an update on any injuries.”

The plane crash near Moloto Road which runs alongside Wonderboom airport but it remains unclear what caused the crash or what type of aircraft it is.

Emergency services said they were attending to “multiple” patients at the scene of the crash.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said that ER24 paramedics‚ along with several other services‚ were on the scene treating the injured.

He said: “Initial reports show that approximately 20 people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical.

“Paramedics are treating the patients and will thereafter transport them to nearby hospital for further treatment.”

Mr Meiring said ER24 helicopters were on the scene to airlift any critical patients to hospital.

Paramedic Xander Loubser from BestCare Ambulance Service said: “There are critical patients.”
