FIFA 19 SHOCK: EA’s flagship sports title could be set for DRAMATIC makeover

The flagship sports title from EA had previously been revealed to feature Cristiano Ronaldo on its front cover for the second year running.

Cover art for the game featured the football maestro on the front in his signature Real Madrid kit.

But today the Portuguese sensation made a shocking transfer move to Juventus.

The transfer means EA will have to re-do the box art for the game or risk the title looking out of date when it releases on September 28.

The move also raises questions about the storyline of FIFA 19’s Journey mode.

The Journey is EA’s attempt to bring a story mode to the football series and last year’s instalment of the game saw rising star Alex Hunter put in the spotlight.

During the story Alex met with Ronaldo and joined Real Madrid before winning the Champions League.

But Ronaldo’s move to Juventus will surely alter the story EA already had planned for the Journey.

Juventus agreed a fee in the region of £105million with Real Madrid for Ronaldo, meaning the star is heading to Serie A.

In a letter to his fans, Ronaldo thanked his fans for the “love and affection” he received at his time with the Spanish giants.

It read: “These years in Real Madrid, and in this city of Madrid, have been possibly the happiest of my life.

“I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club, for this hobby and for this city. I can only thank all of them for the love and affection I have received.

“However, I believe that the time has come to open a new stage in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept transferring me. I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me.”

Real Madrid released a statement confirming Ronaldo’s departure and thanked Ronaldo, who “proved to be the best in the world” for all he had done for the club.

The club said: “Today, Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football.

“Beyond the conquered titles, the trophies achieved and the triumphs achieved in the playing fields during these nine years, Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication, work, responsibility, talent and improvement.

“He has also become the top scorer in the history of Real Madrid with 451 goals in 438 games. In total 16 titles, including four European Cups, three of them consecutive and four in the last five seasons.

“On an individual basis, with the Real Madrid jersey he has won four Gold Balls, two The Best, and three Gold Boots, among many other awards.”

Andrea Agnelli, the president of Juventus, had previously been spotted at Ronaldo’s hotel in Greece, adding to further speculation the Real Madrid star was set for a move.

Ronaldo became a La Liga icon after spending nine seasons with Real Madrid.

During his time in Madrid Ronaldo went on to become the club’s top scorer, tallying up a total of 451 goals.
