‘You can’t talk like that!’ Farage SLAPS DOWN Boulton as he undermines UK’s fishing fleet

In Brussels for the European Union summit, Boulton asked Mr Farage what Brexiteers feel they will gain out of the UK’s EU divorce after David Davis and Michel Barnier agreed to lock the country into the bloc until 2020.

The transition deal means Britain will instantly hand back control of its fishing waters until 2020, when the UK can then become an “independent coastal state” and agree its own access deals.

Mr Farage, who joined Fishing for Leave on their protest on the Thames, said the EU summit “is very disappointing” for Leave voters, adding: “We did not vote for a transition period, we thought Article 50 was going to be the transition period.

“We were here in December, when a whole lot of concessions were made on money, the role of the European court and now we’re in March, making yet more concessions – this time it’s fishing.

“It’s very, very difficult for Leave voters to think we are going to get anything other than Brexit in name only.”

Sky News host Boulton moved the issue to the UK’s fishing waters, which were offered back to the EU in one of these concessions.

Moving against Mr Farage’s defence of the industry, Boulton said: “Isn’t there a simple truth, I think the estimates are that the British fishing industry is 1-200ths of our GDP?”

The former Ukip leader swiftly interjected, he blast: “I’m sorry, you can’t speak about a group of people like that!

“The reason it is so small is because 40-45 years ago, we traded fishing as a chip to join the common market.”

Boulton responded: “The City is very important to the British economy if the City can get the sort of deal it wants on Brexit, isn’t it worth trading off the fish?”

Fishing is the ultimate acid test of Brexit, according to Mr Farage, adding: “This isn’t about money.

“It’s actually about sovereignty, it’s why we voted to leave.”
