Star Wars: Rian Johnson’s NEW trilogy is officially under way – what’s it about?

Ram Bergman, a co-producer on the Star Wars films, spoke out at the Empire Awards – confirming that preliminary work has started.

“We started, slowly, slowly, but we started,” he said.

“And hopefully soon we’ll get more, get busier.”

Johnson himself revealed: “There is [work under way]. Something I look forward to.

“I’m really excited to dive into it, get to work on it, figure out what it’s going to be.”

It was announced ahead of the release of Episode 8: The Last Jedi – which Johnson wrote and directed – that he would take on his own trilogy of movies, separate from the Skywalker saga.

LucasFilm’s Kathy Kennedy said at the time: “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi.

“He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement: “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi.

“Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”

The Last Jedi, meanwhile, is out on DVD and Blu-ray on April 9.
