New Overwatch hero Brigitte has been fleshed out by Blizzard.
The Overwatch developer recently announced plans to answer Brigitte story questions from fans.
This includes whether Brigitte likes donuts, why she doesn’t like Overwatch and if she could beat Zarya in an arm wrestling map.
According to the backstory, Brigitte was named by her Godfather Reinhardt. This is because Reinhardt saved her father Torbjorn’s life.
Lead writer Michael Chu explained that Brigitte became Reinhardt’s squire and played Sancho Panza to his Don Quixote.
“Brigitte’s most common responsibilities are taking care of Reinhardt’s armour, the van they travel around in, and now, her own suit of armoUr,” Chu explains. “It’s still a work in progress, so she’s always making upgrades and adjustments to it.
“She trains and spars with Reinhardt every day, but afterwards, the two of them like to kick off to the tavern or pub and relax.
“She probably looks at a lot of cat holo-gifs.”
Chu also revealed more about Brigitte’s feelings towards Overwatch, explaining that she felt the organisation disrespected Reinhardt.
“Brigitte’s feelings about Reinhardt joining Overwatch are colored by two factors,” Chu explains.
“The first is that she is worried that it is asking too much of him after all the battles he’s seen and the wounds he’s taken over the years.
“The other is that she knows that Overwatch forced Reinhardt to retire at the end of his career, which Brigitte feels was disrespectful to someone who dedicated his life to it as Reinhardt had.”
Ultimately, however, Brigitte will support Reinhardt as best as she can.
Perhaps less surprising is that Chu doesn’t believe Brigitte could beat Zarya in an arm wrestling map.
Brigitte also likes donuts, but prefers semlor.
During the development process, Blizzard considered other knightly weapons for Brigitte, including a sword and mace.
And what exactly is Brigitte’s motivation? Chu explains: “Originally, Brigitte was interested in adventure, traveling around, doing good, and getting a chance to make the world a better place.
“But Brigitte cares deeply for her godfather and believes in him. She wants to do what it takes to keep him safe, while she hones her own skills.”
