Nor’easter in pictures: Storm Toby smashes New York City

Winter Storm Toby is battering the coast following previous storms on March 2, 7 and March 13 which killed at least nine people, and left more than two million homes and businesses without power.

State police in Maryland said they responded to 408 crashes from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning. In Virginia, 250 crashes in less than 10 hours were also reported.

Over 4,400 flights were canceled within, into or out of the United States.

An estimated 88,000 customers were without power. New Jersey had the most, with over 74,000 power outages.

Storm Toby caused schools to close in all of the Northeast’s major cities, with public schools in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C closed as the storm moved north.

The winter storm threw a fresh blanket of snow across New York yesterday and today just before spring begins.
