New Galaxy S8 deal may be the ultimate reason NOT to buy the Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung’s is now almost a year old and its price seems to be dropping by the day.

Amazon has already cut this flagship down to under £550 and now it’s been reduced even further by the online retail giant.

This latest deal means you can pick up this award-winning device for just £470 – that’s over £200 off the original £689 price.

In fact, if you have the money to pay this £470 fee upfront, this is possibly one of the cheapest ways of now owning a Galaxy S8.

Even if you add a £10 per month SIM plan to the price of the phone the total cost comes out a lot cheaper than buying the device on a two year contract.

Here’s how the deals add up.

Galaxy S8 from Amazon – £470 plus £10 per month SIM-only deal • TOTAL COST OVER TWO YEARS £710

Galaxy S8 on contract – £23 per month plus £210 upfront fee • TOTAL COST OVER TWO YEARS £762

NOTE: Both deals above include 4GB of data and unlimited calls/texts.

This is clearly a very good time to buy a Galaxy S8 and this latest deal may even be enough to persuade some Galaxy fans to take delivery of this older device over the new Galaxy S9.

Although latest flagship brings a number of improvements to the Galaxy S range, some have been critical that it doesn’t offer a big enough upgrade to warrant its high £739 price.

The S9 has a faster processor, improved camera and updated design – which makes the fingerprint scanner much easier to use – but otherwise many of its feature remain the same as its predecessor.

Despite the small updates and higher cost Samsung is confident it will be able to create enough excitement around this device.

“I think we are going to be able to do that,” said Kate Beaumont, Director Commercial Strategy, Product & Planning at Samsung during an exclusive chat with Express.co.uk.

“One of the things we have really moved towards in the last few years is being really customer centric.

“With the innovation we’ve brought into the S9 we looked at what it is that customers do most with their phones.

“I think we’ve got a good range of things in there, we refined the Infinity display and we’ve added the AKG speakers with Dolby Atmos.

“If you want to play around with the camera there’s a whole new suite of features including Super Slow-mo mode and then we’re bringing more to it with the connected experience and the changes we’re doing with SmartThings.”

Clearly the choice is yours and both are excellent smartphones but the older S8 now offers a flagship specs at a very low price.
