Sea of Thieves servers DOWN: New status alert on Xbox One and PC shutout

According to those new players trying to get into the pirate life, things are proving difficult.

There are a lot of reports of Sea of Thieves servers being down, with Microsoft confirming problems are being looked at.

“We’re still hard at work working on issues affecting players trying to connect to the game as a top priority,” a message from the Rare development team confirms.

“In order to resolve the issues players are seeing with the servers, we will be temporarily suspending new players joining the game. We’ll get everyone back in and playing as quickly as we can.”

Microsoft ran a lot of server tests before the official launch on Xbox One and PC, however, it’s almost impossible to know just how popular a game is going to prove.

These problems have been ongoing for the past few hours, meaning that the issue could soon be solved.

That, or a surge in new players trying to jump on could cause more problems.

There’s been no report on what has caused the Sea of Thieves issues tonight, only that we can probably rule out issues with the overall Xbox Live network.

No major problems have been noted for other online games tonight.

There have also been reports of missing items and gold in-game, something that Microsoft are also looking into.

The problem:

Players are occasionally loading into the game with no Items, Clothing or Gold.

Players may also notice that no gold reward or reputation reward is given upon completing a quest.

Resolution:

The development team are working on fixing the services responsible for the issue above.

Currently the only method of resolving this issue is to exit to main menu & matchmake back into the game. In extreme cases this may need to be done multiple times.

The gold and reputation rewards should merely be delayed (can take a while to come through).
