eBay: £2 coin sold for £379 this week – do you have one of these rare pieces?

eBay is one of the best places to find rare coins, including this £2.

The 2002 Gibraltar £2 coin was sold on the auction site on Sunday for £379. A bidding war broke out over the item, after 11 bidders made an attempt to get their hands on the coin.

Sold by user “mrdan60” from Fakenham in Norfolk, the coin features a design of a cannon on a bi-metallic coin.

The user said of the coin: “Stunning Gibraltar two pounds coin, dated 2002. Extremely rare bi-metallic cannon design.”

The coin was uncirculated, according to the seller.

The Gibraltar National Mint sells circulating coins issued from the HM Government of Gibraltar under the Gibraltar Coinage Act, 1990.

The coins look similar to British coins, as the small country is the territory of the UK.

They are the same size and weight of UK coins and are exchangble with them.

Other coins created by the Government of Gibraltar which sell for large sum online are the Neanderthal Gibraltar coin and the Pillars of Hercules coins.

The Neanderthal pound coin was listed on eBay for £15,000.

It commemorated the discovery of a Neanderthal skull found at Forbes’ Quarry in Gibraltar in 1848, known as Gibraltar 1.

The rare £1 coin that depicts the 12th labour – Hercules triumphantly capturing the beast named Cerberus – has sold for £295.

The entire series of Hercules £2 coins is listed on the site for more than £7,000.

A rare 50p coin has been listed for £3,000 on the buying and selling auction website, which is a 2005 Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary 50p first issued in 2005 by the Royal Mint.
