Black Panther SMASHES Star Wars all-time record: Wakanda Forever

In the modern age social media is king.

Not content with ruling at the box office, now the King of Wakanda has seized another crown.

Black Panther has officially become the most tweeted about film in history, breaking the stranglehold of the Star Wars franchise. Admitedly, this is a relatively recent marker in the entire history of the movies, but it is an incredibly important one.

The new data also reveals which characters have generated the most online heat and what people were talking about more than anything.

Twitter Movies released the information yesterday and it has only added to the social media storm surrounding the latest Marvel movie.

Black Panther has generated over 35 million tweets so far since its release, beating The Force Awakens, and it has still only been out for a month.

Unsurprisingly, its eponymous hero is the most talked-about character, but the much-praised presence of an effective villian and strong female characters see Killmonger and Shuri in second and third.

The social media record was helped along by the former First Lady of the United States.

Michele Obama’s passionate endorsement of the movie generated almost 140,000 retweets. The importance of the music is reinforced by the revelation that Kendrick Lamar‘s soundtrack announcement was retweeted over 240,000 times.

Social media, of course, loves humourous posts and a viral video of man on a friend’s shoulders as they tried to only pay for one ticket went viral with over 182,000 retweets.

Black Panther has already roared past $1billion at teh global box office.

It is unlikley to catch Titanic or The Force Awakens, but its importance as something more than a blockbuster smash has been established beyond a doubt.

Black Panther is a social and cultural phenomenon. It is the movie which changed Hollywood forever.
