The one jewellery trend Princess Diana, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle never wear

Meghan Markle, 36, Kate Middleton, also 36, and the late Princess Diana, are all known for wearing incredibly expensive jewels.

The British Royal Family has a treasure trove of jewellery, some donated from rich families, and others brought to the UK from regions of the British empire.

Some of the most iconic pieces are Princess Diana and Kate Middleton’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring from Garrads.

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring was created from two diamonds from Princess Diana’s private collection, and a huge stone from Botswana.

Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring was a large, experimental piece, and she also fashioned an emerald chocker into a tiara, a fashion first.

Meghan is also a fan of experimental jewellery, wearing many stacking rings on her fingers and often wearing odd earrings.

However, despite their fashion forward nature, there is one trend these royal women would never follow, according to Grant Mobley, a gemologist and Director at Pluczenik, one of the world’s leading diamantaires.

He said: “One of the many amazing things about diamonds is that they not only have the ability to maintain their value, but they very often increase in value over time.

“This is one of the many attributes that makes real diamonds different from the factory-made diamonds that have recently been introduced to the market.

“If the ring featured a factory-made diamond (which is preposterous as members of the Royal family would never wear synthetic diamonds!) but say, hypothetically, that it did, it would be worth absolutely nothing now.”

Princess Diana’s engagement ring was replaced with another stone when she and Prince Charles, 69, separated.

Diana had the ring made to go with a bracelet she loved to wear even before her divorce.
