Pokemon Go news: Community Day update, Lugia shiny reveal, new event hopes

Pokemon Go fans have had plenty to do this month but the best might have been left till last.

Niantic are set to launch the third Community Day of 2018, with the mini events being hailed a big success.

February’s got some top reviews, and it appears the same might happen in March.

While Trainers won’t be catching Dratinis and unlocking special moves for Dragonites, there are hopes of new shinys.

Bulbasaur will be the special Pokemon on offer on March 25, so not quite as big a pull as Dragonite.

However, by doing enough evolving during the event, you can grab a Venusaur with a special move.

During the hours of the event, there’s a chance to learn a previously unavailable move for that Pokémon or its evolution, as well as earn some Community Day bonuses.

And to learn the exclusive move, you must catch or evolve the featured Pokémon during Community Day hours.

The Community Day will be launched during set hours in each region, and will also include some top bonuses.

These include X3 XP for catching Bulbasaur, as well as three-hour lures on top of that during event hours.

It follows news that fans have been catching their first Legendary Shiny Lugia Pokemon.

Rayquaza is no longer available in Raid battles and has been replaced by Johto Legendary Lugia, which will be available in Raid battles until April 2.

Niantic also announced that the returning Lugia comes with a brand new special move called Sky Attack.

“A powerful Psychic- and Flying-type Pokemon originally discovered in the Johto region, Lugia will appear in Gyms across the globe as the Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza returns to the ozone layer,” Niantic explains.

“You can challenge Lugia, which will know the newly improved Flying-type move Sky Attack, until April 2.

“So gather your strongest party to take on this Legendary Pokemon before it returns to the sea!”

Fans are reporting that they are catching Lugias which are shiny, meaning they appear with a different colour variant.

Instead of the usual blue skin, there Lugias boast magenta markings.

As noted above, Lugia will be available to battle at Gyms until April 2, with no clear indication what will be replacing it next month.

Fans are also hoping that a new Pokemon Go event will follow the upcoming Community Day.

Last year saw Niantic launch the Pokemon Go Eggstravaganza around April 13.

The event lasted seven days and saw a greater variety of Pokémon being found in 2 km Eggs.

Trainers also earned more Candy for every Egg they hatched, while there was also Double XP available to earn throughout.

Niantic have not made any comments on bring back the Eggstravaganza, although an announcement on the day is hoped for.
