SHOCK IMAGES: Man IMPALED by steel rod through his FACE after collision

The headrest went straight through Mr Kumar’s face, narrowly missing his eye, before piercing his skull and coming out just above his ear.

Despite the severity of the situation, Mr Kumar was left at the side of the road for 15 minutes as onlookers allegedly refused to help.

It was only when a heroic young child came to his rescue and understood that it was a life or death situation that emergency services were called.

The driver of the car, Mr Wahab, was pronounced dead at the scene while Mr Kumar was immediately rushed to Aster MIMS hospital in Kozhikode, India.

He then underwent a painstaking FOUR HOUR surgery to remove the steel rod from his face.

Dr Rahul Menon, CEO of Aster MIMS, said: “Removing the pierced steel rod without affecting the eye sight of the patient was tremendous job and would like to congratulate the doctors of the neurosurgery department.”

Just five days after the horrific accident, Mr Kumar made a complete recovery and was free to leave the hospital.

Of his recovery, Mr Kumar said: “I have never expected this kind of recovery. I feel like I’ve been re-birthed.”

Unfortunately, serious road accidents aren’t uncommon in India with an average of 16 serious road accidents every minute.
