Masters 2018: When does it start? Will Tiger Woods play at Augusta?

The 42-year-old has endured a string of knee and back injuries over recent years that have hampered his career as well as a number of private situations that have affected him.

But having undergone back surgery last April and returning to competitive action this year, he is beginning to show signs that he could be back to his best.

He has been in contention at both the Valspar Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational heading into the final round and finished second and fifth respectively.

It has led to a resurgence in ‘Tiger Mania’ with fans flocking to see the American in action.

Having enjoyed relative success in his last two tournaments, all eyes now switch to the Masters.

When is Masters 2018?

The 2018 Masters represent the first golfing major of the season and last year was the scene of an emotional win for Sergio Garcia.

The Spaniard picked up his first major win and this year could throw up another fairytale storyline.

The tournament gets underway on Thursday 5 April, ending on Sunday 8 April and will be shown live on BBC and Sky Sports.

Will Tiger Woods play at the Masters?

As long as there are no health issues or injury setbacks that occur in the coming weeks Woods is ready to go for the Masters.

The 14-time major winner hasn’t won at Augusta since 2005 but his demeanour and performances over the past few months have led to many suggestions he could be in contention.

Woods is actually the favourite heading into the Masters, despite not having won on the tour since the 2013 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

He hasn’t played at Augusta since 2015 and after the Valspar Championship, Woods admitted he needs to get plenty of practice in.

“I need to take a look at it,” Woods said. “I haven’t putted on bent grass in two years.

“So this is going to be new to me — playing on rye like that over-seeded rye, different spins that we’re going to encounter there … what wedge system I want to use … I have to do a little bit of work.”
