Star Wars 9: Luke Skywalker is ALIVE? Mark Hamill hints at RETURN in trilogy finale

The current trilogy will wrap up with the concluding instalment in 2019, with production beginning over the summer.

Skywalker was seen peacefully dying at the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi last year, but now Hamill has quipped on Twitter that he could return after all – although it seems he was only kidding.

Responding to an article about Sebastian Stan being his pick for a young Skywalker, should a spin-off ever be made, he wrote: “Who says I’m not a fan of Sebastian? I want someone to cast us as father & son!”

When someone replied: “but didn’t they just kill luke skywalker?”, he joked: “Only JJ knows for sure.”

JJ Abrams, of course, is the director who will helm Episode 9, having taken over the reigns from Colin Trevorrow – who departed the project last year.

Yesterday it was alleged that Trevorrow could have wanted Skywalker to stay alive, whereas Abrams and Rian Johnson were keen for him to be sidelined; making way for new character such as Finn, Rey, Poe and Kylo Ren to shine.

Little is known about the next movie, but last week Daisy Ridley (Rey) was quoted as hinting that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is still not completely beyond redemption.

Speaking in a Facebook Live video for the official Star Wars page, she disagreed that her character’s hopeful nature is to her detriment.

“I don’t think so, because I think he [Kylo] is redeemable,” she insisted. “There is a moment where is redeemable.”

Referring to the shock death of Snoke (Andy Serkis), she went on: “He does the right thing for a moment even though the right thing is a terrible thing in the grand scheme of things – to kill another person.

“He does the right thing just then in order to help her – and I’m not saying what he does is right, but he does think what he’s doing is the right thing. He’s not like, ‘oh, I’m so evil.’”

Star Wars 9 is out in 2019.
