Roger Federer makes brave retirement claim after Indian Wells win

Federer reached the semi-finals of Indian Wells after a convincing 7-5, 6-1 victory over Hyeon Chung.

The Swiss legend, who kept hold of his world No 1 ranking, is yet to drop a set at the BNP Paribas Open.

After taking a break from the game in 2016, Federer’s resurgence has been nothing short of sensational.

He has already racked up 16 victories on the ATP Tour this season, equalling his best start to a campaign since 2006.

Having already clinched two titles in 2018 – the Rotterdam Open and Australian Open, Federer’s hunger for success remains insatiable.

With a wave of new players coming through, Federer isn’t worried about what the future will hold.

Speaking about his longevity after his win at Indian Wells, Federer said: “It’s a good thing.

“It’s not just about young legs.

“There will always be up and coming players.

“I’m happy to be maintaining my level and I’m happy for Venus Williams reaching deep into the tournament with ease.

“Eventually they’ll push us out and that will be the end of us and we’ll be out.”

Federer will take on Borna Coric in the semi-finals after he beat Kevin Anderson in his quarter-final tie.
